HALF-DAY TOURS

Travel inland to the Valley of 1000 Hills, and after passing through the lovely villages of Kloof & Hillcrest,
we arrive at Phezulu Safari Park and a traditional Zulu village where you will experience vibrant
Zulu dancing and learn about traditional Zulu customs and rituals.

After the show, visit the snake & croc park.

Lying in the valley of the Umhlatuzane River is the village of Marianhill, which started out as a Trappist monastery well over a century ago.
We visit some of the places of interest in the village and stop for tea at the Monastery Tea Garden.
We then depart for Chatsworth and the magnificent Temple of Understanding,
the home of the Krishna Consciousness Movement in Natal.
Learn about the Hare Krishna Movement on a guided tour of the complex. Lunch is optional.

FULL-DAY TOURS

Hluhlilwe Game Reserve

An early morning start will take us north to the oldest conservation area in Africa, Hluhluwe-Mfolozi Park, which was also the traditional hunting ground of Zulu kings. The park covers an area of 96 000 hectare and was specifically proclaimed to save the white rhino from extinction. Today the reserve is the major source for stocking other reserves and game parks with these rather awesome creatures. It is also home to the ‘Big 5’ and a variety of other antelope, as well as having over 400 bird species within its boundaries.

Shakaland – Zulu Cultural Experience

We travel north into Zululand, into the Valley of the Kings, where King Shaka had his homestead. Shakaland occupies the original film set where the movie “Shaka” was made in 1985. Witness tribal customs and feel the pulsating rhythm of Africa through their traditional dancing. The dancers will then escort you to the ‘Shisa Nyama’ restaurant where some traditional fare will be enjoyed.

Wildlife & Culture

Travelling west we leave the city behind for a tour that combines a visit to a game reserve and a Zulu village. Only 45min from Durban we arrive at Tala, a wildlife sanctuary spanning over 3000 hectares and incorporating many diverse natural environments. The reserve features well over 380 bird species, with big game that includes rhino, kudu, hippo, giraffe and the rare sable antelope.  On a drive around the reserve – White Rhino, Buffalo, Giraffe, Zebra, Hippo, many antelope species, as well as a large variety of birds can also be seen.

Depart for the Valley of 1000 Hills where we will enjoy lunch before arriving at Phezulu, where you can learn about Zulu culture, watch some traditional dancing, before visiting the snake & crocodile park.

Pietermaritzburg City Tour

Essentially British Colonial in Character, Pietermaritzburg is a city of contrasts with some 39 historical buildings and having a rich history of Boer, British and Indian culture.

Visit the City Hall, Macrorie Museum, Tatham Art Gallery and the Msunduzi Museum complex, which houses the Voortrekker Museum, Church of the Vow and Andries Pretorius’ House.

Midlands Meander Tour

We visit the Howick Falls and then invite you to sit back and relax as we visit some of the most creative and talented crafters in their studios as we traverse the rolling hills of the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. We stop at a local wine estate where a selection of 5 wines can be tasted, then choose a ‘Cheeseboard’ of local produce. After lunch we ‘Meander’ back, visiting a local cheese farm and take in as much of the country atmosphere as time will allow.

Lesotho / Sani Pass Tour

An early departure will take us through the rolling hills of Natal to Underberg where you will transfer to a 4X4 vehicle for your ascent of the pass into Lesotho, the only road access to the mountain kingdom from the east. The views along the route are magnificent as you traverse the highest mountain road in Southern Africa. Once at the top of the pass a visit to a small village will give you an insight into the lives of the Basuto people. Lunch will be taken at the ‘Highest Pub in Africa’ before we begin our descent back to Underberg. A truly memorable experience.

San Rock Art

We travel west to the Ukhalamba World Heritage Site, stopping at Giant’s Castle where a easy one and a half hour hike will transport you to the cave where a local guide will tell you about the history of the San people and the legacy they left behind

TRAVEL EXCURSIONS

3 Night/ 4 day – Best of Zululand Tour

DAY 1

We travel north to the town of St.Lucia, situated in the Isimangaliso World Heritage Site where we embark on a 2 hour boat cruise on the Estuary, bringing you up close to hippos, crocodiles & a variety of bird life. After lunch enjoy an authentic Zulu Cultural experience at Khula Village. The tour will take you into the heart of a real working Zulu community where age-old tradition meets contemporary Zulu society and will give you a hands-on introduction to many fascinating aspects of traditional and modern Zulu life. This evening enjoy a 2.5 to 3 hour nocturnal drive in the Eastern Shores Reserve, where you might be lucky enough to spot Hippo, Buffalo, Spotted Eagle Owls or maybe a Leopard. Chameleons abound in the reserve with the Sitara’s Dwarf Chameleon being endemic to this area.

DAY 2

After a breakfast we'll depart for Hluhluwe for a visit to Illala Weavers -an exciting community based craft shop. From here depart for Hilltop Camp (or similar). Check in before going on a game drive in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve.

After a leisurely breakfast, we travel north to Cathedral Peak Hotel. Nestled in the natural surroundings where the San people once roamed, this is an ideal venue ‘to get away from it all’ Afternoon at leisure.

DAY 3

The hotel has many facilities for guests to enjoy and free daily hikes, including daily guided walks to Bushman paintings and waterfalls. There are more than enough sporting activities to keep you occupied throughout the day or you can just sit back and enjoy the magnificent unspoiled natural surroundings.

DAY 4

We say farewell and take a leisurely drive back to the coast visiting the Didima Rock Art Centre and the Thokosiza Craft Centre, before stopping at the Stables where we indulge in a bit of ‘Wine Tasting” at KwaZulu-Natal’s own vineyard, reaching the coast in the afternoon.
